Hyacinth Janette Antoinette Bucket by any other name ...

PM’s dining room to get $540,000 reno

A Senate Estimates hearing has been told a planned renovation of the Prime Minister’s dining room in his Canberra office is likely to cost more than $500,000.

Under questioning from the Labor Senator John Faulkner, Parliamentary Services officials revealed the estimate of building costs is $475,000, plus $65,000 for architects.

The officials told the hearing several meetings have been held on the issue, one of which was attended by the Prime Minister’s wife, Janette Howard.

Senator Faulkner says the estimated cost is an outrage and more than the cost of a fancy family home.

”$475,000 and of course the Prime Minister would want it covered up,” he said.

Is that the sound of a squeaky wheeled tumbrel we hear in the background?
Think so. Good. Pass me another Bourbon.

UPDATE.

A spokesman for the Prime Minister says the renovation will not go ahead and the plan was scrapped when the potential cost became known.

As a consequence of this outrageous reversal of fortune, Lady Bucket wishes to advise all the little people she had invited around to eat cake will now have to scoff down the lamingtons on the stoop around the back until the stern words she has visited upon her cut and run husband bear fruit.

Lady Bucket further wishes to advise that party-pooper Senator Faulkner has a date with Madame Defarge at dawn.
